We took two Youth Teams out to compete at the Copa Tarragona in Barcelona this weekend. We had 20 players out and almost 70 people in total as it was an unforgettable weekend spent with amazing people. The group were based in Salou and visited the Nou Camp on the Saturday. Our teams then played Day 1 in two local stadiums. This was a brilliant experience as the local teams brought a lot of noise to produce a real carnival feel to the games. We faced some top level teams and the boys played superbly. Ryan McGurren scored Tummery’s first international goal - a quiz question in years to come. Both teams reached the semi finals of their sections on Day 2 at Altafulla. Sadly we lost out by narrow margin in both games with Daithi McLaughlin get the pick of the goals after a lovely flowing move involving Aodhan Corry and Daithi providing a cool finish. Tiernan McCarron nearly scored goal of the tournament with a thunderous strike only for the keeper making a world class save. Before we left the Altafulla trip - our lads treated us to gaelic match, the locals weren’t too sure what we were at . We then finished off the trip with a chilled out day at Port Aventura water park. An amazing experience for these young lads to play in an international tournament against top level opposition. A huge thank you to coaches Fintan McCarney and Damian Hunter for taking the boys out and to parents for bring them out and contributing to a brilliant trip. What a trip, what an experience. Memories that will last a lifetime!! Huge thank you to The Barcelona Experience and Marty Lavery and his staff for a brilliant trip.
